kIM’S pRIORITIES
Housing Development
Kim knows that Madison is projected to grow by tens of thousands of residents in the coming decades. This is why Kim believes that City leaders must step up, and make sure that developers are building truly affordable housing. Kim does not want to see out-of-town developers make a quick buck off the backs of Madison residents, and will stand up to anyone that tries to scam our citizens. Kim will support a variety of housing proposals to encourage ownership of homes by groups that have not traditionally been able to reach home ownership. Kim will support mixed use development where it is appropriate.
Kim believes we need more transparency and collaboration between the Mayor, Alders, and the community when new development is being proposed
Kim knows that there is no “one size fits all,” zoning code, and will take a neighborhood-by-neighborhood approach to zoning
Kim will make sure that all tax incentive deals are fair to residents of the city first and foremost, and that smart decisions are made with taxpayer money
BRT and Public transit
The BRT bus system has rolled out, but has left behind so many neighbors in Madison. Kim believes in making sure that BRT services are accessible and equitable, especially for residents of otherwise underserved neighborhoods. Kim will advocate for more consistency and transparency about the BRT program.
Kim knows that some routes have been changed and phased out unfairly, and will be a voice against inequitable changes
Public transit is a powerful tool in attracting a diverse and growing workforce and Kim will make sure that public transit meets market demands
Kim will communicate and advocate for residents of neighborhoods that have lost traditional Madison Metro services in the BRT rollout
enhancing public safety
Kim is a supporter of the Madison Police Department and the Madison Fire Department. Kim knows that high quality public safety requires a real investment of taxpayer dollars. Kim also believes in transparency in policing, and wants to equip Madison Police officers with body worn cameras. Kim also supports the CARES Team and the work they do in responding to mental health calls in our City.
Kim will bring together neighbors, public safety professionals, and community organizations to help address violence prevention and promote safety strategies
Kim will help the Madison Police Department organize resources to emphasize traffic enforcement, and expand the Traffic Enforcement Safety Team
Kim supports fully funding and expanding CARES in addition to continuing to fund MPD and MFD fully
fiscal common sense
In late 2024, Madison voters approved a $22 million referendum to support the City’s budget. Just weeks later, the City projected a $20 million surplus. Voters deserve more fiscal transparency and an Alder who will put their priorities on top in the next budget. Kim supports more budget listening sessions, more education for the public, and some good old fashioned common sense when it comes to the City budget.
Kim knows that rising property tax costs force families to make difficult financial decisions, and will work to keep property taxes affordable and people in their homes
Kim will ensure that City programs are held accountable for delivering results for residents, and that unnecessary or duplicate spending is reigned in
Kim will make sure that no sweetheart deals are cut for various groups or organizations for the sake of political expediency, and that fiscal discipline is always a point of discussion
increasing transparency and accessibilty on the common council
Kim believes that the work of city government should be done in public, and that late night and back room deals should not be the way we do business. Kim will work hard to consistently communicate with residents of District 16 about city issues, and will advocate for better accessibility to city agencies.
Kim will propose making Common Council meetings end at reasonable times, so that important decisions for our community are not made in the late night hours
Kim will have consistent in-person attendance at Common Council meetings, and will be engaged with the process of governing and not distracted during Council meetings
Kim will explore changing the rules of the Common Council to ensure that all citizens get a chance to participate in meetings, and that nobody is taking over meetings for political purposes
Protecting our natural resources and environment
Kim knows that our lakes are some of Madison’s richest natural resources. Kim will fully support any research into cleaning up Madison’s lake and keeping them clean. Kim will hold polluters and abusers of our environment accountable to the fullest extent possible. In March of 2023, the 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field ended the use of PFAS (forever chemicals) in firefighting foam. Kim will help make sure that PFAS remediation and future pollution prevention are priorities for the City of Madison.
Kim supports urban forestry, and will work to preserve tree-lined parks and streets and ensuring that new development doesn’t destroy our environmental resources
Kim believes in finding a balance of continued development of trails and parks and preserving our environment
The City of Madison is home to several hundred public parks, and Kim believes that they should be free and accessible to all residents of our city
